THEY'RE IN THE ARMY NOW

First Lieut. Nellie Osterlund, army nurse who has been stationed in Hawaii the last 39 months is spending a 30-day leave with friends and relatives here. She was stationed in Hawaii on Dec. 7 1941, when the Japanese attack occurred.

Her brother, Sergt. John Osterlund, has been reported missing in action in France. Lieutenant Osterlund is a graduate of East high school and Iowa Lutheran hospital of nursing.

Her Obituary:

Nellie Osterlund, 80, of Heather Manor, 600 E. Fifith St., died of a heart ailment there Sunday. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Miss Osterlund was born in Des Moines, where she lived most of her life. She retired as an assistant administrator for nursing education at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, where she was formerly director of nursing. She was a veteran of the Army Nurse Corps and had been a member of the Iowa Lutheran Hospital Alumni Association, American Nurse Association, National League of Nursing and Iowa Board of Nursing.

There are no immediate survivors.
