Army Nurse Corps
Esther Evangeline Oppedal was born Oct. 2, 1922 to Torkel and Johanna Anderson Oppedal.
She graduated from Norwegian American Hospital School of Nursing in May 1944 and served in the U. S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II in the European Theatre with the 179th General Hospital.
Dec. 13, 1947 she married Arthur Lund (who also served in the U. S. Army in World War II) and they farmed near Jewell. She worked as a registered nurse until joining the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames.
Esther died Oct. 8, 2010, and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell, IA.
