Mercedes Nugent Army Lieutenant
Miss Mercedes Nugent, 21, a private duty nurse in Waterloo for the past year, has been appointed a second lieutenant in the army nurse corps and will leave Monday to report at the Albuquerque, N.M. air training depot. She was graduated from Mercy hospital, Dubuque, Ia., in June 1942, and from West High school in 1939. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Nugent, Gilbertsville, Ia. She has a brother, Lee J. Nugent, who is a second lieutenant in the army air forces at Mills Field, San Bruno, Cal. Her uncle, Lt. Leo J. Nugent, lost his life in World War I.

Gilbertville -- The public relations office of the AAF convalescent hospital at Albuquerque, N.M. has announced promotion of Second Lt. M. Nugent to first lieutenant. Lieutenant is an alumna of the nurses association and a member of the district state and national nurses associations. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Nugent of Gilbertsville.

Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Nugent today announce the marriage of their daughter, Lt. Mercedes Nugent to Pfc. Harold Leslie Stewart, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stewart, Springfield, Mass. Rev. Fr. Austin Henry, chaplain, officiated at the ceremony on Sept. 15 in the post chapel, Camp Swift, Tex. The bride is a graduate of St. Joseph's mercy school of Nursing, Dubuque. She enlisted as a nurse in the army air forces in July , 1942, and was stationed at the army air force convalescent center, Albuquerque, N.M., until last November, when she was transferred to the station hospital at Camp Swift, Tex. Private Stewart is with the medical corps stationed at Camp Swift.
