INDEPENDENCE GIRL SWORN INTO WAVES
Independence, Ia. -- Miss Mildred McSweeney of this city, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. McSweeney, passed her examination and was sworn into the Waves at Des Moines Tuesday. She expects her call in about three weeks at which time she will be sent to Hunter college in New York City, where she will receive her basic training.
Miss McSweeney is a graduate of St. John's high school in the class of 1939 and was awarded a scholarship to Mount Mercy college at Cedar Rapids, which she attended, and graduated in 1941. Since her graduation she has been employed as bookkeeper at a cleaning firm in Cedar Rapids. She has a brother Donald in the army air force in north Africa.

LEAVES FOR WAVES SCHOOL
Independence, Ia. -- Miss Mildred McSweeney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. J. McSweeney of this city, who recently enlisted in the Waves at Des Moines, left Wednesday for Hunter college, New York, to take her basic training.
