La Porte City—Ruth McChane, daughter of Mrs. Neva McChane, was promoted from second lieutenant to first lieutenant recently in north Africa, near Tunis, where she is stationed as an Army nurse. She left for Africa May 11, 1943, after being employed as a registered nurse at Billings hospital in Chicago for six years after graduating from St. Luke’s hospital in Cedar Rapids.
