Miss Patricia A. Leonard, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J.P. Leonard of 1605 1/2 Arlington Avenue, Davenport, is shown (picture), posed at the helm of an invasion landing craft. She was among a group of cadet nurses in training at the U.S. Naval Hospital, San Diego, Calif, who spent a day at the amphibious training base at Coronado, Calif., observing naval forces practice invasion techniques in a mock landing.
Miss Leonard, formerly art editor of the Marycrest college newspaper, attended Davenport high school and studied for two years at Marycrest college prior to joining the cadet nurse program at the State University of Iowa hospital. When she completes six months of training at the San Diego hospital and passes Iowa state examinations for registered nurses, she will be eligible for commission in the army or navy or for appointment to one of the three other federal services.
