Neva Peterson Leo

Neva Perriet Peterson was born June 17, 1920, to Perry and Nellie Chalma Peterson. She graduated from Ellsworth High School and Iowa State College, Ames, IA. She married Wayne Leo on April 22, 1943, in New Haven, CT.

She was an Ensign in communications in the WAVES and was stationed at Washington, D.C. Her husband, Capt. Wayne Leo served in the engineering department of the air force.

Neva Perriet Peterson Leo was born on June 17, 1920 in Ellsworth, Iowa, the daughter of Perry and Nellie (Chalma) Peterson. Neva graduated from Ellsworth High School and attended Iowa State College, receiving a BS in Dietetics. On April 22, 1943, she was united in marriage to Wayne Leo in New Haven, Connecticut.

After Wayne left for overseas duties, Neva joined the US Navy and attained the rank of Ensign. After her time in the service, she lived in Washington, D.C and worked in communications. Wayne and Neva lived in Kansas City for a short time before moving to a farm near Dysart on March 1, 1947. Neva worked in the family home and helped Wayne on the farm. In the fall of 2014, the couple moved to Independent Living at Sunrise Hill in Traer. Neva was a member of the Dysart United Methodist Church. She enjoyed going to their lake home on Holiday Lake in Brooklyn, Iowa, gardening, and teaching swimming lessons.

Neva died at the age of 94 on Monday, March 16, 2015, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marjorie Ellen Peterson Marshall and Marybelle Jean Peterson Pearson Ober and a brother, Wendell Arthur Peterson. Neva's wishes were to have her body donated to the University of Iowa. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
