GETS CHRISTMAS LEAVE -- Lt. Delourise Layman of the marine corps women's reserve will arrive in Mason City Dec. 23 to spend Christmas with her mother, Mrs. H.A. Layman, 324 6th N.W. Lt Layman wired her mother Friday that she had been selected as 1 of 2 women marines to be transferred from the marine barracks at Parris Island, S. Car., to duty on the west coast. She had been a code and communications officer and supervisor of Western Union at the Parris Island base for a year, having enlisted in the corps in 1943. She received her boot training at Camp LeJeune, New River, N. Car., and officers training at Mount Holyoke college, South Hadley, Mass.

ARRIVES IN HAWAII -- Mrs. H. A. Layman, 324 6th N.W., has received word that her daughter Lt. Delourise Layman, was among the first women marines to land in Hawaii. Lt. Layman is a communications officer and a member of the first detachment of the marine corps women's reserve to be assigned to Hawaii. In her letter to her mother, Lt. Layman described the landing with the marine and navy bands to meet them and said that on her first night in Hawaii, she saw Mason City boys, Lt (j.g.) John Robertson and Lt. (j.g.) Ted Knudson.
