Ensign Ruth Selena Larson

 

 

Temporary mayor, Ruth Larson, yeoman second class of Decorah, Ia, who is stationed at the Cedar Falls Wave training school.

Miss Larson was a member of the first class sent to Cedar Falls and is a member of the publicity department there.

Ruth Larson, yeoman second class (left) received the gavel of authority from Mayor Ralph B. Slippy Monday, and was made mayor of the day. "The navy takes over the town today" said Slippy, "and we hope the recruiting campaign is successful."

Ruth Selena Larson Ellingson was born Dec. 8, 1919 to John E. and Minnie J. Iverson Larson. She died Sept. 20, 2006 and is buried in Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, IA.

Ens. Larson served in World War II with the U.S. Navy WAVES at the Navy Dept. in Washington, D.C. She was married to Nathan Clifford “Hoot” Ellingson. Petty Officer Ellingson served in World War II with the U.S. Navy.
