IDA JEANNE DAKIN SVENSON, 80, Webster City, died Sunday, July 21, 2002 at Crestview Manor in Webster City. A grave-side memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City. There will be no visitation. Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
Ida Jeanne Dakin Svenson was born Sept. 8, 1921 to Emery and Flossie Dakin in Webster City. Their family moved to Spooner, Wis. in the early 1930's. Jeanne attended four years of training at the Mashalltown School of Nursing. Following graduationh in 1944, she enlisted in the U.S. Army-Air Force. She spent her time in the service in Germany until her discharge at the rank of lieutenant. After her years in service, she went to work for the Boys school in Coshoction, Ohio. From there, she moved to San Francisco where she graduated from the IMB Computer School in the early 1950's and was one of the early IBM computer technicians. Jeanne later moved back to Webster City and became the supervisor of the OB department at the Hamilton County Public Hospital. She married John Svenson on August 13, 1960 at the Methodist Parsonage. She continued to work at the hospital and then as a nurse for Dr. Patterson.
Jeanne and John retired in 1975 and eventually moved to Prescott Valley, Ariz where they built a new home in 1977.
They remained there until the fall of 1994, when they moved back to Webster City. Jeanne became sick and moved to Crestview Manor on Dec 41, 1999 and remained there until her death.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Flossie; her father Emery; her three brothers, Darwin, Warren and Wayne; also by her three sisters, Vi Wedlund, Madeline Nelson, and Donna Doolittle. She is survived by her husband, John; her son, John and his family, Shirley, Dana and Alyson Svenson.
Jeanne liked to camp, crochet, macrame, make all kinds of crafts, including beautiful native wood clocks, playing bridge, and spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the discretion of the family.
