Des Moines in the Services

Two Des Moines women have been sworn in the WAVES and are now awaiting their call to active duty. They are Margaret Mary Doyle , 650 1/23 Fourteenth place and Anna E. Corso, 1501 Thirty-second st. Miss Corso has a brother in the army and two sisters in the WAVES.

Marian, one of the three Corso sisters in the WAVES, is home on a seven-day leave visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Corso, 1503 Thirty-second st. She was formerly stationed at Washington, D.C., and is being transferred to Mare Island, Cal. Marian is a hospital apprentice, first class.

Lena, stationed at Washington, D.C was recently promoted to a petty officer, third class. The third sister, Anna, is receiving her boot training at Hunter college, New York City. A brother, Joseph, is a sergeant in the army at Camp Bowie, Tex.

Des Moines in the Services

Four Des Moines women recently have been graduated from the naval training school for yeoman at Oklahoma A&M university, Stillwater, Okla., and have reported to active duty as yeoman, third class, at various stations. The new petty officers and their duty assignments are: Mary Jean Combs, 938 Harding road and Anna Corso, 1503 Thirty-second st., both to commandant, sixth naval district, Charleston, S.C.; Mildred T. Barnes, 663 Thirty-eighth st., bureau of ships, Washington D.C,; and Jeannie E. Gabel, 2324 Thirty-ninth st., commandant, ninth naval district, Great Lakes, Ill.

Des Moines in the Services

Two daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Corso, 1503 Thirty-second st., were home on leave at the same time last week. They are Marian Corso, pharmacist's mate, third class, in the WAVES, stationed at a naval hospital at Mare Island, Cal., and Anna Corso, yeoman, second class, stationed at Charleston, S.C. Another daughter, Lena, is in the WAVES at Washington D.C. and a son, Joseph is en route home from army service in Europe.

Anna Corso - St. Petersburg, FL

Anna Corso, 102, formerly a resident of Des Moines, passed away on May 5, 2016 in Florida. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
