Joins Marines
Betty Fay Barnes, former Davenport resident, has been inducted in to the Women's Reserve corps of the Marines and expects to leave next months for Hunter college to start her training.
Miss Barnes is a graduate of the 1930 class of the Davenport high school and was former president of the Beta Alpha Beta sorority.
She was formerly employed in the U.S. district engineers' office in Rock Island. Last summer she was transferred to the area engineers office in Des Moines.

Pvt. Betty Barnes Finishes Training
Pvt. Betty Barnes, daughter of Mrs. Portia Barnes, 2417 Middle road, has completed primary training in the marine corps at Hunter College, N.Y., and has been ordered to report to Atlanta, Ga., for further training.
Following three months instruction at Atlanta she will be qualified to serve as a central tower operator at an airport. Last Wednesday her regiment was reviewed at Hunter college by Madame Chiang Kai-Shek.
Prior to entering the service, the Davenport girl was employed with the U.S. engineers at the Clock Tower and also in Des Moines.
