LAKOTA BOY HOME AFTER THREE YEAR DUTY IN HAWAII           

Lakota:  Vernon Zoller, who has been in the Navy for six years and was in Pearl Harbor at the time of the Jap attack, is here for a visit with his mother, Mrs. Mary Zoller.  This is the first time Mrs. Zoller has seen her son in three years.

FIRST RELEASE OF STATE HISTORICAL DEATH SUMMARIES

Eighty men from Kossuth county lost their lives while in the service of their country in World War II.

Died of wounds received in action in Philippines, 11-30-44. Mother: Mrs. Mary Zoller, Lakota, Ia.

Vernon Dean Zoller was born July 9, 1919 to John Carl and Mary Anna Haus Zoller. He died Nov. 30, 1944 and is buried in Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Lutheran Cemetery, Lakota, IA.

Chief Petty Officer Zoller served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Maryland (BB-46) and died in a kamikaze attack on that ship in the South Pacific.
