Obituary:
Richard A. Zimmermann, 89, of Vermillion, SD died Thursday, October 18 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.
Richard was born August 7, 1918 in Ireton, IA to John and Theresa (Johnson) Zimmermann. He graduated from Ireton High School in 1938, and joined the US Navy serving for 23 years and retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. His distinguished Naval career included service in the Pacific during WWII and more than a dozen trips through the Panama Canal.
Richard started working at the Central Natural Gas Co. in 1962 as their secretary treasurer, and the company later became Minnegasco. He was a member of the Vermillion VFW for over 40 years.
Richard is survived by his wife Annaleen of Vermillion, three sons; James
(Mary Ann) of Iowa City, IA, Richard (Joni) of Stillwater, MN and Dennis (Mary
Kay) of Vermillion. Five grandchildren and five great grandchildren are also
surviving.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother William, and a sister Mabel
Richardson. Funeral services will be Monday, October 22 at the Concordia
Lutheran Church in Vermillion, with burial to follow in the Bluffview Cemetery
