Youngmark Dies in Italy

Mrs. G. Youngmark, 1112 E Eight st., has been informed by the war department that her son, Sergt. Roy W. Youngmark, 33, died July 2 in Italy. He had been overseas three months and was recently moved to the Italian front.

Sergeant Youngmark was a drummer before entering service in November, 1942 and was in his division infantry band. He was a graduate of East High school.

Surviving, besides his mother are his widow, Mrs. Jo Ann Youngmark, and two children, Suzanne and Roy, now living in Kokomo, Ind., and two sisters, Mrs. Odis Davidson of Des Moines and Yeoman Helen M. Youngmark of the WAVES.

Sgt. Youngmark Rites Saturday

Service for Sgt. Roy W. Youngmark, 33, of 1112 E. Eighth st., will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Dahlstrom's funeral home, with burial at Glendale cemetery.

Sergeant Youngmark died July 2, 1944, of injuries suffered when he was struck by a vehicle near Bagnoli, Italy. He was a graduate of East High school and was employed as a professional musician before entering the army in November, 1942.

Sergeant Youngmark was a member of Mission Covenant church. The Rev. Arnold Tamte, pastor of Mission church, will officiate at the service, with Baldwin-Patterson post of the American Legion participating in the graveside services.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. G. Youngmark of Des Moines, a son, Roy II and a daughter, Suzanne, both of Lake Worth, Fla, and two sisters, Mrs. Odia Davidson and Helen Youngmark, both of Des Moines.

Roy William Youngmark was born Jan. 30, 1911 to Ernest and Gerda O. Carlsberg Youngmark. He died July 2, 1944 and is buried in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.

Sgt. Youngmark served in World War II with the U.S. Army 91st Infantry Division Band and was killed in Naples, Italy during the Italian Campaign.
