Chester Robert Yeager was born Sept. 10, 1920 to George Swan and Traisy Jane Carman Yeager. He died July 4, 1943 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, North Africa American Cemetery, Tunis, Tunisia and in Byers Cemetery, Elkhart, IA.
Lt. Yeager served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 20th Bomber Squadron, 2nd Bomber Group, Heavy and was MIA/FOD/KIA as the co-pilot of a B-27 “Flying Fortress” which crashed into the sea off the southern coast of Italy as a result of enemy action. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
