Des Moines- Donald James Winey, son of Mrs. Iva Winey of Denison, Iowa, a deck cadet in the United States merchant marine, is reported missing. There are 293 names on the list released through the naval public relations office here. Forty-three are reported dead and 250 missing. Winey is the only Iowan mentioned.

Donald James Winey was born Oct. 9, 1921 to Raleigh David and Iva Esther Mason Winey. He died Feb. 15, 1943 and is buried in Deloit Cemetery, Deloit, IA.
Donald served in World War II with the Merchant Marines and was MIA after the oil tanker that he was on was torpedoed.
