Peterson, Ia.—Cpl. Victor W. Whipple has been awarded the bronze star for meritorious service in combat on the Fifth army front in Italy.  Whipple is a member of company A, 133d infantry regiment of the 34th “Red Bull” division.  In addition to his regular duties as a company cook, Whipple worked as a litter bearer, evacuating wounded soldiers under heavy artillery fire.  Whipple is the son of Mrs. A. L. VanKleck and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Ross.
