Pvt. George Welch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welch of this city, has been transferred from Camp Reynolds, Greenville, Pa., to the east coast where he expects to be transferred overseas with a medical detachment.

WELCH IN AFRICA
Pvt. George Welch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welch of Webster City, has arrived in North Africa, according to a letter recently received by his parents. He was seasick on the way over, and has not been warm since he left America, he said. He had a long and interesting talk with Jim Northrup whom he met somewhere on the other side. His new address: APO 7559, c-o Postmaster, N. Y., N. Y.

W. C. SOLDIER IS WOUNDED IN ITALIAN ACTION
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welch of this city have received word from their son, Pvt. George Welch, that he has been wounded in action in Italy.
A letter from the Webster City serviceman stated that the wound was not too serious but he would be required to stay in the hospital for a considerable length of time.
Welch has been overseas since last March.

Webster City Soldier Sending Medals Home
Pvt. George Welch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welch, who was wounded in action recently in Italy, has received the Purple Heart medal and also the Oak Leaf cluster for heroism. He is sending the medals back to his parents.
The Webster City soldier writes that he is recovering nicely but expects to be in a hospital for a considerable length of time.

Mrs. Frank Welch returned Thursday from Springfield, Mo., where she had been visiting her son, Pvt. George Welch, who is receiving medical treatment at O’Reilly General hospital.

Pvt. George Welch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welch of this city, is now located at Winters’ General hospital, where he recently underwent an operation on his knee. His condition is reported as good and he would like to hear from his friends.

Bronze Star to George Welch
George Welch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welch of this city and a veteran of World War II, has received notice that he had been awarded the bronze star medal for service during the American campaign in the Italian theater of war.
Welch has already received official papers announcing the award of the medal, given “For meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy” in the Mediterranean theater of operations during the Rome-Arno campaign.
In that campaign, Welch was severely wounded in the left knee and spent a year and a half in the hospital. He was in the service for two and one-half years, and was serving with a medical detachment of the 30th Infantry when wounded.
The official papers indicate the medal will be forwarded to the Webster City veteran sometime in May.

George Welch, born in Webster City, Iowa on March 13, 1924, passed away on August 13, 2015 at the age of 91.
George had a career working for Hughes Aircraft for over 30 years, was proud to be an Army Veteran, serving during WWII; receiving a Purple Heart. He loved fishing, traveling, nature walks, reading, and dogs. He leaves behind his spouse Pilar Welch and sister Marjorie Erickson.
Memorial Services to be held at Riverside National Cemetery on Wednesday 8/19/2015 at 12 noon. 22495 Van Buren Blvd., March Air Force Base, CA 92518. Memorial Mass to be held at Christ the Good Shepherd on Thursday 8/20/2015. 17900 Jonathan St., Adelanto, CA at 10:00am.
