Maj. Sterling Reuben Vold

 

 

 

Sterling Reuben Vold was born Apr. 7, 1914 to Axel and Annie Mae Swenson Vold. He died July 30, 1970 and is buried in the New Tacoma Cemetery, University Park, WA.

Major Vold fought throughout World War II in the Pacific Theater and participated in the defense of South Korea from North Korea and post war rebuilding. He was shot in the knee and caught malaria which continued to plague him throughout his life.

He received the American Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Bar, Overseas Service Ribbon, including medal pendant. National Defense Service Medal, United National Service Medal for Korea, Korean Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal during his career.
