Paul M. Thorngren was born Aug. 30, 1919 to John R. and Pauline D. Carlson Thorngren. He died Oct. 27, 1943 and is buried in Florence American Cemetery and Memorial, Florence Italy. He has a cenotaph in Lawn Cemetery, Boxholm, IA.
Major Thorngren served with the U.S. Army Air Corps 5th Reconnaissance Group in World War II. He was KIA in Italy and awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
