Henry Joseph Smith was born Mar. 13, 1922 to Henry Joseph and Helen Taylor Smith. He died July 11, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Jordan Cemetery, West Des Moines, IA.
Sgt. Smith served in World War II with the U.S. Army 128th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry Division and was MIA/KIA in New Guinea while serving his country. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
