Clifford Fay Smith was born Jan. 1, 1915 to Robert Hasty and Anna Krutsinger Smith. He died Sept. 11, 1945 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 7, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii. He has a cenotaph at the LuVerne Cemetery, LuVerne, IA.
Sgt. Smith served with the U.S. Army Air Force 404th Bomb Squad, 28th Bomber Group, Heavy and was lost at sea when his plane crashed into the sea near the Aleutian Islands. He was declared MIA and later as KIA. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
