Lt. Cecil James Smith

Nemaha, Iowa – Cecil J. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Smith, was graduated from the Midland, Texas army air field as a bombardier and was commissioned a second lieutenant. He is a graduate of Sacred Heart High School.

Cecil James Smith was born Dec. 5, 1919 to Henry and Marie Smith. He died June 7, 1944 and is buried in Brittany American Cemetery, Saint James, France.

Lt. Smith served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 839th Bomber Squadron, 487th Bomber Group, Heavy and was KIA in Rennes, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
