Leslie Vincent Slater was born Sept. 28, 1919 to Ralph John and Ertie M. Jarrett Slater. He is memorialized in the North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial, Carthage, Tunisia and has a cenotaph in Fontana Cemetery, Hazelton, IA.
Lt. Slater served with the U.S. Army Air Corps and completed 22 missions piloting a Lightning Fighter plane known as the P-38. He was reported MIA/KIA/FOD over enemy territory near Cape Serrit, Africa.
