One Is Missing Another Wounded On Battle Fronts  
 
Cpl. Harold Shaffer and Sgt. M. L. Morris Are Casualties
 
 
One soldier from this community is missing in action and another has been slightly wounded on the European battle fronts according to messages received here today. 
 
The missing soldier is Cpl. Harold A. "Bud" Shaffer, son of Mrs. Marv Shaffer, 1908 East Twelfth Street, Davenport, who has been missing since July 24 in a bombing mission over France. No further details were contained in the message which was received from the war department by his mother. 
 
Wounded is Sgt. Myron L. Morris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Morris, 2532 Glenn Street, Bettendorf.  
 
Sgt. Morris, according to the message received by his wife, Mrs. Lillian Morris, was slightly wounded in Italy, July 23.  
 
His wife is now at West Frankfort. Ill.  
 
Verification that Sgt. Robert E. Kademan had been wounded during the fighting in France, on July 6, was also received today by his wife, Mrs. Janet M. Kademan, 323 East Seventh Street. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kademan, 931 State Street, Bettendorf had previously received word on July 24, that he had been wounded and had received a sniper's bullet which penetrated both of his legs.

Harold Pershing Shaffer was born Sept. 13, 1918 to Herbert A. and Mary Buenning Shaffer. He died July 24, 1944/FOD July 25, 1945 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Rhone American Cemetery, Draguignan, France.

Sgt. Shaffer served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 759th Bomb Squadron, 459th Bomb Group, Heavy and was MIA when his B-24 bomber crashed after attack by enemy fire in France.
