Benjamin George “Bennie” Schafer was born Apr. 19, 1922 to Gottlieb Friedrich and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Marie Schmidt Schafer. He died Nov. 25, 1944 and is buried in West Bend Cemetery, West Bend, IA.
Sgt. Schafer served in World War II with the U.S. Army Field Artillery as a light tank driver with Co. A, 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 7th Armored Division and died in the Netherlands while in the service of his country.
