Elmer C. Rice, husband of Florence A. Rice, 1423 Judd Street, has been promoted to sergeant at Biggs field, Texas where he is assigned to the B-24 four engine bomber training program.

S. Sgt. Elmer C. Rice, whose wife and son, Gary Lee, live at 1423 Judd Street, is a radio mechanic at LeSenia airbase, Oran, Algeria, in the North African division of the air transport command. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Rice, Holstein, Iowa. A graduate of Holstein High School, he was employed by the post engineers at the Sioux City army airbase as an electrician before entering the army in April 1943.

Elmer C. Rice was born Apr. 13, 1910 to Oscar and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Rice. He died Aug. 12, 2006 and is buried in Ida Grove Cemetery, Ida Grove, IA.
