Selmar Leo 'Sam' Rastetter

 

 

 

Selmar Leo Rastetter was born Jan. 25, 1928 to William Edward and Lydia B. Wicks Rastetter. He died Dec. 1, 1985 at Pomeroy, IA.

Selmar was a U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Prairie (AD-15), USS Henderson (AP-1) and USS Chevalier (DD-451).

Sam Rastetter, 57, a brother of Jerald Rastetter of Webster City, died Sunday at Pomeroy. He had been in failing health since 1964.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Community Methodist church in Jolley with burial in the Crown Hill cemetery near Jolley.

Visitation will be at the Palmer Funeral home in Rockwell City until about 9 a.m. when the casket will be taken to the church.

Sam Rastetter, the son of William and Lydia Wicks Rastetter was born near Williams Jan. 25, 1928. He received his education at Buckeye.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947.

He was married in 1949 to Katherine Kaoeppen at Mason City. The couple resided at Buckeye for five years, then moved to the Jolley area where they farmed west of Jolley. Later they farmed near Twin Lakes. In 1964 they moved in to Jolley, living there until 1981 when they moved to Pomeroy.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Philip Kathryn Ross of Coalville; two sons, Philip of Jolley, and Monty of San Antonio, Texas; 7 grandchildren; three brothers, Jerald of Webster City, Edward of Buckeye, Donald of Jewell and a sister, Mrs. Earl (Betty) Fitz, of Iowa Falls.

He was a member of the Jolley Methodist church.
