Oliver J. Rapps was born 1923 to George and Nine F. Rapps. He died Apr. 4, 1945 and is memorialized at Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Netherlands and has a cenotaph in Garrison Cemetery, Garrison, IA.
Sgt. Rapps served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, 548th Bomb Squadron, 385th Bomb Group, Heavy. He was a Right Waist Gunner on B-17G “Shadie Sadie” #43-38639 and was declared MIA on a bombing mission to Kiel, Germany. He was later declared KIA and awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
