Edwin Earl Purkapile was born May 31, 1922 to Louis Edwin and Pearl Landaker Purkapile. He died Oct. 17, 1944 and is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.
Lt. Purkapile served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 512th Bomb Squadron and was MIA/KIA over Austria while serving his country.
