FORMER STUDENT MISSING

Lt. Albert Pierce, who made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Jake Sherman, Jesup, during his high school years, has been reported missing from a mission flight. It is not known where he was located or over what territory he was during the fateful mission.

Lieutenant Pierce graduated from Jesup High School in 1933, and attended Upper Iowa University, Fayette, for two years, and later working in a printing office in Houston. While at Jesup, he assisted in the local newspaper office during his spare time.

He received is aerial gunners wings in November, 1943, at Houston and took advance training in navigation at San Marcos, Texas, and was commissioned a second lieutenant and received another pair of wings.

His wife lives at Houston, Texas, and he has a sister, Mrs. Paul Kuhens, of Wadena, Iowa.

Allyn Albert Pierce was born Mar. 14, 1917 to Ernest Henry and Sarah Ann Hutton Pierce. He died June 20, 1944 (At Sea). 

Flight Officer Pierce served with the U.S. Army Air Corps on B-24J #42-50534, 1st Air Force, First Command, 113th Army Air Force Base (Wing) D Squadron, Unit Combat Crew 193. He was MIA/KIA on a flight that failed to return to South Carolina from a flight from Nassau, Bahamas.
