William George Phillips was born June 19, 1917 to William Clarence and Helen Mary Kollmeyer Phillips. He died Aug. 20, 1944 and has a cenotaph in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA. He is also memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
Lt. Phillips served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 26th Fighter Squadron, 51st Fighter Group as a pilot on a P-51 Mustang and was MIA/FOD/KIA and awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
