GETS DISCHARGE

Kenneth L. Peterson, chief petty officer aboard Destroyer-Escort 59, has been given an honorable discharge after three years of service in the navy. He arrived in Fort Dodge Wednesday morning and came to Webster City Thursday for a short stay at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elmer Clabaugh near Kamrar.

Pete, as he was familiarly known here, had been connected with the news department of the Freeman-Journal some 14 years. Having reached his 42nd birthday, he was given his honorable discharge, following a schedule now in force in the navy. He was formerly aboard a tanker and has made many trips across the Atlantic and into the Mediterranean and along the coasts of North Africa, Italy, France and England. He also spent a year in Iceland.

K. L. PETERSON ON KVFD STAFF OF ANNOUNCERS

Kenneth L. Peterson, recently given an honorable discharge from the U.S. navy has accepted a position on the announcers’ staff of radio station KVFD at Fort Dodge.

Ken was formerly on the news staff of the Freeman-Journal for 14 years. In January, 1942, he enlisted in the navy. His last position was as a chief petty officer aboard a destroyer escort. He had crossed the Atlantic many times and had visited many ports in the Mediterranean and along the west coast of Europe. He was stationed in Iceland for a year and was also in Scotland. He has a host of friends in Webster City who will be glad to know of his association with the Fort Dodge radio station.

Kenneth Lee Peterson was born Apr. 16, 1901 to William Andrew and Minnie L. Grant Peterson.

Chief Peterson served in the U.S. Navy in World War II on a destroyer escort in Iceland and the Atlantic sea areas.
