The cost of war runs high!
Word of the victory in Europe today brought a feeling of happiness and relief to thousands of families in the Muscatine area, but for others there were only sad memories. And for those who have sons, husbands, brothers or other relatives, fighting against the Japs in the second phase of the big world-wide conflagration the period of rejoicing was less pronounced.

The names of those who have made the supreme sacrifice in the World War No. 2, compiled from records maintained by The Journal, follow:

Pfc. Charles W. Parry, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Parry, of West Branch, killed Dec. 25, 1944, while on a troopship en route from England to France.

Charles Wesley Parry was born Feb. 11, 1926 to John LaRue and Maureen Stratton Parry. He died Dec. 25, 1944 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France and has a cenotaph in West Branch Cemetery, West Branch, IA.
Pvt. Parry served in World War II with the U.S. Army 262nd Infantry Regiment, 66th Infantry Division and was KIA and received the Purple Heart.
