Martin Jay Olson was born Feb. 10, 1921 to Martin and Jennie Tasdall Olson. He died July 1, 2007 and is buried in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hardy, IA.
Cpl. Olson served with the 1st Platoon, Company C, 110th Infantry, 28th Division. He was at Omaha Beach where his assignment was the company runner for his platoon. He also fought during the Battle of the Bulge and on Dec. 17, 1944 was captured by the Germans and imprisoned at Bad Orb, Germany at Stalag IX B. He was liberated on Apr. 2, 1945 when Patton’s tanks broke through the camp gates.
