Donald Hamilton Niggemeyer was born Nov. 15, 1921 to Floyd W. and Winifred Hamilton Niggemeyer. He died Oct. 26, 1944 and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Fort Madison, IA.
Lt. Niggemeyer served in World War II with the U.S. Army 175th Infantry, 29th Division was MIA and became a POW. He died of his wounds while a POW, according to information from Fields of Honor. He is buried in Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, Belgium and memorialized at Elmwood Cemetery, Fort Madison, IA. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
