Tage R. Nielsen was born Feb. 18, 1917 to Jens M. and Otilde Nielsen. He died Dec. 11, 1943 and is memorialized at the Wall of the Missing in Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial, Coton, Cambridgeshire, England.
Sgt. Nielsen served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 614th Bomb Squadron, 401st Bomb Group, Heavy as a left waist gunner onboard 42-31098 “Penny’s Thunderhead”. The plane was hit by flak on a mission to Emden. He was awarded an Air Medal and Purple Heart.
