Roger Allen Nelson was born Aug. 11, 1924 to John H. and Alma M. Thompson Nelson. He died Sept. 29, 2006 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion, IA.
Roger served with the U.S. Navy in World War II and was assigned to the USS Boyd. The Boyd was involved in the battle of the Philippine Sea, Saipan landings, invasion of Guam, the strikes against Okinawa and Luzon and the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
