George M. Nelson was born Apr. 18, 1923 to George M. (Sr.) and Mary M. Leffer Nelson. He died Aug. 5, 1944 and is buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield, IA.
Lt. Nelson was a crew member of ship #42-107144 and was one of seventeen service members to be killed in a mid-air collision of two B-17G Flying Fortresses during an aerial formation training flight from the Sioux City Army Air Base, Iowa. He served in World War II with the Army Air Corps.
