HOMER MELLGREN

Homer J. Mellgren, 84, Stratford, died Friday, Dec. 7, 1990 at the Story City Memorial Hospital. Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the McGuire Bend United Brethren Church with the Rev. Lynn Newbraugh officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford. The Stark-Welin Funeral Home, Stratford, was in charge of arrangements.

Homer J. Mellgren, son of Hans and Sarah (Sexe) Mellgren, was born June 28, 1906 in Farnhamville. He was a 1924 graduate of Stratford High School. He began working as a barber in the Latch Barber Shop in Stratford in 1922. In 1926 he and Ronald Bell purchased the shop and were partners in the business until Mr. Bell died in 1953. Homer continued to run the business until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Washington, D.C., from August, 1942 until October 1945. He married Pearl A. Aronson Jan. 19,l 1944 in Rockville, Md. After World War II, the couple moved to Stratford.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1986, six brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of McGuire Bend United Brethren Church and the American Legion.
