Edward Charles McCarter was born Sept. 30, 1918 to Charles William and Ruth Cole McCarter. He died Feb. 10, 1945 and has a cenotaph in Greenwood Cemetery, Lexington, NE. He is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.

Sgt. McCarter served with the U.S. Army Air Corps 495th Bomb Squadron, 334th Bomb Group, Medium and was MIA (body not recovered). He was awarded the Air Medal with 9 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
