Delmar Arlin Magnuson was born May 7, 1924 to Axel Willard and Tillie A. Hetland Magnuson. He died Aug. 31, 2009 and is buried in the Eldora City Cemetery, Eldora, IA.
Delmar served with the U.S. Navy Air Corps in World War II.

Surrounded by family, Delmar Arlin Magnuson peacefully left us to meet his Savior on August 31, 2009 at the age of 85 years.
Second son of Axel and Tillie (Hetland) Magnuson, Delmar was born on May 7, 1924 in Radcliffe, Iowa. Delmar attended the Ellsworth school system and upon graduation he enlisted in the Navy. From November 1944 to April 1946, Delmar served his country in the Naval Air Corps, working on fighter planes. While stationed in Virginia and Oklahoma, Delmar met Colleen June Munsey of Britton, Oklahoma and they were married on May 12, 1945.
A popular local farmer, Delmar and June lived south of Eldora and raised their three children: Carol (deceased), Debra (Glenn) Booth of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Renae (Timothy) Kadolph of Story City, Iowa.
Delmar farmed for over thirty years at which time he changed career paths to work for the J.S. Latta Company as a builder/installer. In this position, Delmar was instrumental in constructing many of the gymnasium facilities and chemistry labs used all over the state of Iowa. He proudly constructed the Eldora High School’s bleachers and work out facilities. After many years of traveling around the state of Iowa, Delmar began as what was to be his last career as a much requested builder/remodeler in the local area. Delmar’s handiwork has left its’ mark on many local businesses as well as personal homes. His work will be a lasting reminder to those that knew him.
On August 11, 1976, Delmar & Patricia (Jaspers/Minteer) were united in marriage. This union brought four step-children to the Magnuson family: David (Lynette) Minteer of Eldora, Iowa, Kathy (Donn) Ferguson of Wasilla, Alaska, Douglas (Renee) Minteer of Eldora, Iowa and Don (Kris) Minteer of Cunningham, Tennessee.
Delmar and Pat spent several of their retirement winters in Mesa, Arizona where Delmar enjoyed watching his beloved Chicago Cubs at Ho Ho Kam Park during spring training.
Delmar was preceded in death by his wife June, daughter Carol, parents Axel and Tillie, infant brother Ernest, brother Dale & step-mother Martha.
Delmar will be lovingly missed by: his wife Patricia, daughters Debbie and Renae; step-children David, Kathy, Doug & Donald; grandchildren Spencer and Brett Booth and Benjamin & Corena Kadolph; step-grandchildren Jenny Raska and step-great-grandchild Owen; Tyler (Kella) Minteer, Eric Minteer, Jason, Douglas Jr. Daniel & Dana Minteer Josh Minteer, Jeremiah Ferguson and Jeffrey (Teresa) Ferguson; Delmar’s brothers & sisters; Mavis (Lester) Luppes of Webster City Kenneth (Myra) Magnuson of Canon City, Colorado and Ruth (Ron) Dalbey of Algona, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Valley Hospice of Grundy Center, Iowa or to the Eldora Nursing & Rehab Center in Eldora, Iowa.
In Delmar’s honor, the family will plant a tree in his memory at the Eldora Nursing & Rehab Center for all to enjoy.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, Iowa at 10:30 A.M. on Friday September 4th, 2009. Visitation will be form 6 to 8 P.M. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Burial will follow the services in the Memorial Annex of the Eldora City Cemetery.
