William Clare Leffingwell was born Dec. 22, 1919 to George and Martha H. Davis Leffingwell. He died Feb. 21, 2005 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
Lt. Leffingwell served with the U.S. Air Force in World War II as a navigator on a Flying Fortress (B-17) stationed in England with the 8th Air Force. He received the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in the aerial phase of the battle for France and bombing assaults on Germany. He also served in Korea.
