GUTTENBERG MAN CITED IN FRANCE
Carl Kriesler Knocks Out Enemy Machine Guns
Guttenburg, Ia. - Special: The headquarters of an engineer battalion has cited Pvt. Carl Kriesler, of Guttenberg, for outstanding performance under fire in France.
While acting as lead scout, Pvt. Kriesler was cut off from the rest of this squad. He knocked out two enemy machine gunners unassisted and then returned 100 yards to the rest of his squad.
After leading them to their objective, he made another trip back under fire to recover a heavy machine gun.
Pvt. Kriesler, son of Mrs. Merle Kriesler, of Guttenburg, was promoted to a corporal technician on July 13.

Carl Junior Kriesler was born Nov. 15, 1924 to Clarence C. and Muriel Kauffman Kriesler. He died July 6, 2002 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Colesburg, IA.
MSgt. Kriesler served in World War II with the U.S. Army. He also served in Vietnam.
