Dear Mr. Roelofs: Just a few lines to let you know how much I appreciate your sending of the Sioux Center News to me. I have been receiving your paper regularly. To me the receiving of a home town paper is another great item in keeping up the morale of a soldier. I like my work in the army quite well. As far as food and clothing is concerned I think I can say we are getting the best and plenty of it. I am looking forward to the next edition of the News. It gives me a complete description of the interests I have back home. I wish to thank you for sending me the News. Sincerely yours, Pvt. Gary Koerselman Sta. Hos. B.F.S. Jan. 3, 1944 Dear Ed: Just a few lines to print in your paper if you please will. I wish to thank our many friends for the holiday greetings they sent us and also the business girls club for the fine gift. It is nice to know that our friends haven’t forgotten about us even though we are so far apart. Leona, Gary Harlan and I are all getting along fine. We have been fortunate to be together for a number of months now. I’m still doing the same work, clerk in a flight surgeon’s office, which I like very much. A happy and prosperous New Year to you Ed. I hope your paper keeps coming as good as what it did in the past year. We still find it very interesting. A friend, Gary Koerselman 8th A.A.A.F.F.T.D. Visalia, Calif.

Dear Chuck: I wonder if you would print this small letter in your paper. Leona and I wish to extend our thanks to the many friends who sent holiday greetings. We sent a few cards, too, but missed a few of our friends which was not intentional. Leona, Gary Harlan and I are all in the best of health. We have been fortunate to be together for a number of months now. I’m still doing the same work, clerk in a flight surgeon’s office which I like very much. A happy and prosperous New Year to you Chuck. Keep up the fine work on the “Index”. We enjoy reading it. A friend, Gary Koerselman.

P.S. I meant to write this in the body of the letter. – I was glad to meet one of our home town boys – Earl Koele, who is a Cadet here. We have been seeing quite a little of each other. Meeting an acquaintance from your home town is an unusual coincidence in the Army. Earl had Christmas dinner with us.
