Richard Allison Keister was born Aug. 23, 1925 to William Edward and Marcella Emma Baker Keister. He died Aug. 6, 1945/FOD Aug. 23, 1946 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.

Petty Officer Keister served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bullhead (SS-332) and was MIA/KIA when that ship was sunk in an air attack at the west end of Lombok Strait. The Bullhead was the last U.S. submarine lost during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
