Cpl. Russell Kamerman Writes From The Philippines
July 2, 1945 Dear Ed: I guess you are surprised to hear from me. So I thought it was about time I wrote you a few lines that I am still kicking and in good health and to tell you that your most welcome paper is coming to me fine. The last one I had was May the 24th – it sure makes a fellow feel good to hear from folks at home and to hear they are all doing what they can for us boys out here and I thank all of them and so do the rest of the boys.
Well, Ed we have a pretty good place. We sure can’t kick about it. We live in good tents and we can fix it up the best way we like it. We have lights in them and some of the boys have radios. We can hear the news and even on Saturday night we hear that good old barn dance. We have good eats too. Today we had chicken and yesterday we had pork chops. So you see Ed we get the best they can send us. I guess some of the boys don’t get all that but you are doing your best.
Well the weather is pretty hot and we have lots of rain, sometimes we would be better off if we were ducks, but with a strong back and lots of faith we will make it.
One thing we are sure of is that the Lord is on our side and we all pray that we will be home with loved ones soon. Well Ed thanks for everything and I thank all of you for all the letters and gifts you have sent. So I’ll close this letter with a prayer in my heart that we all can come home soon and again thanks for everything.
Sincerely yours, Russell Kamerman
