Billie R. Johnston was born Oct. 4, 1923 to George and Mabel Kunce Johnston. He died June 12, 1945 and has a cenotaph in Yale Cemetery, Yale, IA. He is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
Sgt. Johnston served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 63rd Bomb Squadron, 43rd Bomb Group, Heavy and was KIA near Shanghai, China while on a reconnoissance mission. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
