Lt. William Edward Jackes, Jr.

 

 

 

Holstein, Iowa – William Edward Jackes, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. William Jackes, recently was commissioned a second lieutenant in the army upon graduation from the officer candidate course in the infantry at Fort Benning, Georgia. He entered the army January 2, 1942 and served with the quartermaster air force complimentary military police in Hawaii as a corporal.

William Edward Jackes was born Oct. 3, 1914 to William and Gertrude Foster Jackes. He died Aug. 11, 2007 and is buried in Holstein Cemetery, Holstein, IA.

1st Lt. Jackes served in World War II with the U.S. Army Infantry, participating as lead platoon in 13 river crossings and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster and the Bronze Star.
